Our Facilities

Our Rooms

Built in 1895, the building benefits from spacious rooms and high ceilings. We have four rooms, offering childcare for 28 children aged 0 to 5 plus a sleep room for babies. Small class numbers and a family atmosphere are what makes us special.

Wise Owls: The ground floor caters for children between the ages of 2¼-5 years. We call this group the “Wise Owls”. The layout provides the children with access to the garden both for free play and for learning which is a fundamental goal of the National Curriculum. see pics The ground floor also hosts the children’s toilets, a disabled toilet and the Nursery office.

All the food is cooked on site in our kitchen, and all the children eat in the conservatory, known to the them as the “Rainbow Café” see menu. The conservatory is also available for water and messy play, arts and crafts, and physical play. It acts as a wonderful interface between the main classroom and the garden.

Outside, we have a beautiful walled garden, including a sand pit, outside toys and the children’s garden patch, where we hope to be successful in growing our own organic fruit and vegetables!  The garden has been designed to retain it's spacious and natural feel. The house has always had plenty of birds nesting in the grounds and we have respected all bird boxes in the layout (we currently have a family of blue tits nesting in the back garden and a family of wrens in the front).

Upstairs we have two large, bright rooms that make up the Baby Unit for children between 3 months and 2 ¼ years of age, known as “Hedgehogs” and “Squirrels”.

Squirrels: This large, bright room has a separate bottle-warming room attached. The room takes 6 babies and has areas for soft play and messy play.  see pics

Hedgehogs: Another large room with high ceilings, it has lovely views of the stables opposite and the Chichester conservancy beyond. The room has an en-suite toilet, ideal for children as they make the transition away from nappies. see pics

There is a separate sleep room for the children to ensure they are able to get proper sleep in a beautifully tranquil environment. We have a baby monitoring system and in addition, the babies are checked every ten minutes by a member of staff. see pics

We have our own driveway for easy dropping off and collection. We ask that on no account do you park on the double yellow lines outside the property, or in the Brookfield Hotel. Please also take care when you leave the drive as there is a cycle track which runs all the way along the A259.

With all facilities, we have worked closely with the relevant council teams to ensure the Nursery delivers excellent provision in terms of Health and Safety, compliance with the Disability Discrminiation Act, Fire, Security and Hygiene. If you have any specific questions, we would be delighted to discuss them with you.
